Jimmy Carter was the 39th president of the United States. He was born October 1, 1924, in the small town of Plains, Georgia. His father was a farmer and his mother was a nurse.

American FlagWhen he was president he worked for world peace. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for helping to solve problems all over the world. Jimmy Carter said, "I believe America can be better. We can be even stronger than before."

Today, Jimmy Carter works with Habitat for Humanity. He helps build houses for people who need homes.
